Qualcomm has announced its new Snapdragon Reality Elite chip, tailored for smart glasses, at the Augmented World Expo. The chip is set to debut in Xreal’s Aura Android XR glasses this fall, marking a significant step in wearable technology.
The Snapdragon Reality Elite boasts a 60% improvement in GPU performance and a 30% increase in CPU performance, alongside a remarkable 160% enhancement in NPU performance. It supports stunning 4.4K resolution at 90 frames per second per eye, all while reducing latency.
Battery life sees a boost of up to 20%, and the chip operates up to 12 degrees Celsius cooler than its predecessors. Qualcomm aims to resolve critical issues in the smart glasses market, including overheating and inadequate battery performance.
Smart glasses remain an emerging technology, and Qualcomm is dedicated to advancing the chips that power these devices. The Reality Elite chip aligns with a broader trend toward integrating AI features into wearables, paving the way for more sophisticated smart glasses in the near future.
